From time to time we’ve covered the darker side of DIY technology including sprays that make your license plate a blur to traffic cameras, a jammer that will actually change streetlights from red to green, and of course how to hack an elevator. Obviously we say, don’t try this at home kids - many of these are considered serious federal offenses.
Today we have what is innocently billed as a how to on making anti-paparazzi sunglasses, when we all know the main use for those not on the A list will be to obscure closed Circuit TV cameras. You only need some wire and a few lithium batteries and a really strong light.

Cory Doctorow has written a short novel where this is used as a camera defeating device. His used infrared emitter diodes pointed outwards on a baseball cap. It’s an effective device, as most low light cctv cams are extremely sensitive to IR radiation. We cant see it but the camera does. Flood the area around the persons head with them, and all the camera see’s is a white blob.

Another idea is to use infrared LEDs in the brim of a baseball cap.
