Classy (Crazy?) Retailer to Allow HD-DVD Owners to Swap for Blu-ray Players

Now this is a classy move, but don’t worry, odds are it won’t be a total loss for the company. Japanese electronics retailer Edion has instituted a swap program for customers who purchased HD-DVD players. The offer: to replace the used units with new Blu-ray players. Customers who bought any of seven Toshiba HD-DVD decks can exchange them for a Blu-ray player from Sony, Panasonic or Sharp.
Customers will have to make up any difference in the price. If the HD-DVD player was actually more expensive, customers would receive a refund. Although in most cases Edion will get something out of the transaction, this is still an extremely generous move (and great PR)!
The Toshiba players eligible for the offer, according to Edion’s press release (.PDF, Japanese) are the RD-A1, RD-A300, RD-A600, RD-A301, HD-XA1, HD-XA2, and the HD-XF2.
The offer runs from March 1st - March 31st, according to the press release. Now this is the way a retailer should treat its customers. Wal-Mart, are you listening (although I’m much more concerned over how you treat your employees)?

Doc Greene says:
Have you ever noticed that everytime a walmart opens that there are 5 applicants for every available job? do you know that walmart managers by and large started as stockers and warehouse help. Are you aware that Walmart does more to help the poor and the commnunity than most of its competitors. They donated several thousand to the church that I attend. Walmart is a great company and it is time they are recognized as such. I do not work for them nor am I a stock holder, but I do love shopping there.
