“Duke Nukem Forever” Rises from the Grave (?)

Duke NukemBy Michael Santo

Duke Nukem Forever is one of the quintessential examples of vaporware. In fact, it’s held up as such in that linked Wikipedia article. And you can bet hundreds of times the “Forever” part of the title has been said to mean how long it will be in development. That said, a new game featuring the iconic Duke Nukem would be a hot seller, and that makes this big news.

3DRealms has said that at “around” noon CST today, we will get the first teaser trailer for the game.

According to the post (and the server is so bogged down, you likely won’t be able to get to it), the trailer was unveiled at a company Christmas party last Saturday.

Now, it should be remembered that a trailer by no means indicates they are “close” to release. And in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a “vaporware” trailer (hence the question mark in the subject). Still, I will be among those checking their site (probably fruitlessly, because of server load) at noon CST.

Update: It’s up, and the servers are overloaded, as I expected. Check it out here.

You can also view the trailer below.

Wonder if good ol’ Duke blowing smoke in our faces is a metaphor ;)

What makes you think he is blowing smoke in your face?

If this releases I will buy this game.

I don’t know. It’s been so long since playing Duke Nukem 3D that it’s completely lost its charm.

If it’s simply another rehash of all the other monster shoot ‘em ups out there, it will just be “one of many” and a major let down.

Then again, after about 15 years of playing all the games that have come out all this time, maybe I’m just getting old and tired of the same thing over and over and over again.
