Bookeen Cybook Gen3 Brings Books to the 21st Century
By Martin Regtien
Contributing Writer, RealTechNews

In this preview Paul Moons says: The Cybook is an portable reading device based on E Ink® Corporation’s low power electronic display technology. The Cybook features a 6″ black and white screen with paper-like contrast making it reliable in most lighting conditions.
With a small footprint, 8,000 page flips on a single charge of its Li-Polymer battery, HTML, PalmDOC and PDF support, this device seems great for personal use but I suspect perfect for schools and other educational settings.
Read on here for the Cybook Gen3’s specifications and pricing.

Jim says:
These would have been great a few years ago. I afraid without a high quality color display these are a non starter today unless they are dirt cheap.

Lewie says:
At about 430 USD I wouldn’t consider these things dirt cheap. I’d like to have an e-book reader, but so far nobody’s been able to hit the sweet spot on features vs. price. I’ll keep waiting.

Another Mike says:
I’m not sure how a high quality color display would really help book reading… but maybe that’s just me. I really want one of these, the display is really fantastic. But I agree with Lewie that it costs just a tad too much. When they get down to $200, then I’ll go ahead and grab one right quick.

dogger says:
so is it basicly a portable picture viewer like those picture frames that run with memorycards?

I guess I should clarify my comments.
If you have seen a modern text book you would notice a big use of color for photos and illustrations. To replace a text book I think would require color.
For reading a novel it would be ok, if you could GET an e-book easily at a reasonable price. However, I like to read in bed at night and find a self lighted display aka PDA works pretty well in that case.
Still, if you look at almost any modern publication it will be in color. Even the local newspaper is in color.
