MSNBC.com Acquires Social Media Site Newsvine

By Michael Santo

MSNBC today joined the ranks of social networking news sites such as Reddit and Digg by acquiring Newsvine.

Msnbc.com is diving into citizen journalism and social media by acquiring Newsvine.com, a small but innovative player in what is known as “participatory journalism.”

Neither of the companies would disclose terms of the deal, which was announced Sunday. It is msnbc.com’s first acquisition in its 11-year history. Source: MSNBC

We Say: I’m quite surprised that this is MSNBC’s first acquisition in its history, personally. Newsvine, which currently has only six employees, will continue to run independently.
