India Overtakes U.S. as Nokia’s Second Largest Market

It should surprise no one really. For one thing, Nokia has focused more of its attention on emerging markets, such as China, its largest market, and India. The huge population advantage both countries have over the United States made it only a matter of time, and India has now overtaken the U.S. as Nokia’s second largest market.
Chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo made the comment on a visit to India to meet officials, suppliers and clients.

We Say: Of the 185 million cell phones in use in India, about 46% of them, or 85 million are Nokia phones. Small wonder that Motorola has had problems making inroads in emerging markets.
