What is OneKeyAway? Well, OneKeyAway is a dating service. It hosts mixers for singles in the L.A. area, and basically couples zap each other to determine if they’re a match.

Before parties, guests register online and complete questionnaires. The answers are then transferred to digital memory devices — red, plastic squares slightly larger than a matchbox — that the guests wear like necklaces.

During a party, people point their devices at one another to check how compatible they are. The devices flash red, yellow or green, depending on their level of compatibility.

Green means go, and red? Stop. Source: Reuters

We Say: Edwin Duterte, the founder of OneKeyAway, said that while Web matchmaking has become very popular, one main drawback is the lack of personal contact. And despite the zapping nature of the matchmaking, it’s still just an icebreaker, and face-to-face is most of the process … as evidenced by two people talking to each other at the event the reporter went to … they were red when zapped. :-)

If this ever catches on, I’m hacking a way to be compatible or incompatible on demand. But it won’t catch on, so no worries.

It actually seems like a pretty neat idea to me. It’s a nice icebreaker if nothing else.
