Anyone remember Webvan and HomeGrocer.com? I do … I even used Webvan, but not for groceries … they discounted BART tickets you ordered through them. :-) Aside from that, never used ‘em. Now, Amazon.com is starting a trial service in a Seattle suburb. Called Amazon Fresh, it basically mirrors the prior dot com companies.

WebVan and HomeGrocer.com — read like a who’s who of the dot com bust. Sales never managed to match the huge amount of capital investment the companies had to make in order to launch the services.

Amazon Fresh essentially duplicates those services, as the company has its own local warehouse and trucks to deliver the food. Source: BetaNews

We Say: Although Webvan and HomeGrocer.com failed miserably, Amazon.com does have the advantage of warehouses all over the country anyway if they wanted to take this national. You can check out Amazon Fresh here.
