Aerial Video: Draganflyer Remote Control Helicopter Reviewed
By Martin Regtien
Contributing Writer, RealTechNews

The Draganflyer is an amazing piece of kit: this remote control helicopter has a unique design, is extremely maneuverable and very easy to fly compared to conventional RC helicopters.
We have just taken delivery of the Draganflyer Stabilized Aerial Video System (SAVS) and will bring you a series of in-depth reviews on the unique capabilities of this UAV.
This is not a toy, nor is it a professional tool but occupies a niche position to create some great aerial video.
Here is Part One.

Not impressed, Martin.
How about I just duct tape this 1/3″ cctv wireless color camera (and it’s 9v battery) to a cheap tethered helium balloon
for those all-important aerial shots?
These cams are available on the net for as little as $19 (ebay)
and do the same job for a lot less. Plus, no skill is needed to “fly” a balloon…

Sure, there are many ways to get a cheap aerial perspective: kites, pidgeons, rockets…
We’re talking manoeverability here. Did you read about the other scenarios here? And what’s the fun if no new skills need to be learned, eh?

Mikey says:
ok ok, so there is a reasonable
use for this. It still looks incredibly expensive, like $300-$500 (guessing) and it requires
a fair amount of skill to use. plus, it’s way too big.
all the same, my solution uses the same 1/3 cctv camera / xmitter and not only is way cheaper but can be adapted to other types of mounts as well.
So far, I’ve created a live underwater cam with a ziplock bag, a ceiling fan cam (360 degree view taped to the motor housing) and an extended height crane-type cam (6 foot broom handle)
and yes, even a skateboard cam (underside of board in front of the front truck)
I’ve seen the eagle cam (puts a cam on a South American Harpie’s shoulder (stunning inflight video)
The turtle cam is very slow, and the dog collar cam (may do that one)…
I want to see this device in use.
I want to see it used professionally, and i want to hear the downside stuff from the operator before I decide to buy.

Martin says:
The DraganFlyer can’t possible compete with your underwater cam! But it can follow the dolphins at play…
