PS3 Price cut: Only Temporary

Ah, so they really didn’t cut the price. How’s that? Well, it appears what they’ve really done is lowered the price of the 60GB model … but they also stopped making it. Once the supply is gone, the 80GB will be leave at the original $599 price point. This tidbit appeared in an interview between GamesIndustry.biz and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves, when he was asked why the Europe wasn’t getting the lower price deal.
How concerned are you about possible criticisms that you should have given European consumers what SCEA has given US consumers, i.e. the option to pay a lower price?
Well, they’re not really are they, because what the US are offering from the 1st of August is a USD 599 version with one game. All they’re doing is taking their stock in trade that they’ve got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July.
So once the 60GB is gone, that will be the end of the 60GB then?
In America, yes. Source: GamesIndustry.biz
We Say: OK, if you want a 60GB model, run, don’t walk to the nearest store, as you can see from above he indicated the stock will be all gone at the end of July.

with Wii outselling the PS3 in Japan
4 to 1 in April
5 to 1 in May
6 to 1 in June
it seems the Japanese have figured out that the PS3 is not all it’s cracked up to be. Its price is largely irrelevant once the rest of us catch up.

» Wal-Mart Brochure Confirms (?) Xbox 360 Price Drop » Blog Archive Alice Hill’s Real Tech News - Independent Tech says:
[…] The reason I say confirms (?) is because the only evidence of this is an image posted to the web … and it’s not a huge picture either … but the $349 price is clear … so it’s either been Photoshopped or we’re seeing another console price drop (hope exists after the PS3 Price Drop that turned out to not be a Price Drop). The teensy picture above purports to depict a new Wal-mart ad with that oft-rumored new $349 price point for the Xbox 360 Premium. The EXIF data checks out, so if it is a prank at least they took the time to do it right. Source: enGadget […]
