I remember watching Mr. Wizard once or twice. Quite honestly, it was so long ago, I remember nothing about the subjects. I do remember him appearing on David Letterman, though, and to many children, he was the one person who could explain science, and make it both understandable and interesting.
Don Herbert, who as television’s “Mr. Wizard” introduced generations of young viewers to the joys of science, died Tuesday. He was 89.
In “Watch Mr. Wizard,” which was produced from 1951 to 1964 and received a Peabody Award in 1954, Herbert turned TV into an entertaining classroom. On a simple, workshop-like set, he demonstrated experiments using household items. Source: Seattle Post-Intelligencer
We Say: There was a revival of the show, ‘Mr. Wizard’s World’ on Nickelodeon in the 1980s. Herbert, who had bone cancer, died at his suburban Bell Canyon home. A private funeral service is planned.

Lewie says:
I remember Mr. Wizard and while the memories of the show are vague, I do know the topics were fascinating and probably led to me asking for chemistry, electronics and Erector sets as a kid. He was the Bill Nye of his time and may have played a larger role than I know in shaping my interest in the general sciences. I’ll hoist one (maybe two) to him tonight.

I actually saw Mr. Herbert demonstrate a word processing program once. I loved that show.
