Not only is Dell selling desktops in Wal-Mart stores, they are now selling laptops and desktops in Sam’s Club as well. The laptops will be Inspiron 1501s. They’ll sell for $899, and will have Windows Vista Home Premium, 2GB of memory, and AMD Turion dual-core processors.

Dell will sell its Inspiron 1501 notebook for $899 and a Dimension desktop model for $829 at more than 580 Sam’s Clubs nationwide within the next week, the companies said.

“This is an additional step in our emerging retail strategy,” Frink said of the decision to sell the Inspiron at Sam’s Club.

He said Dell will announce deals with other retailers in coming months. Source: Houston Chronicle

We Say: Although I know why Dell is making these moves, I still prefer to go to a website (whether it’s Dell’s, Voodoo’s or other) and fully customize a laptop or PC there, including trying multiple configurations. However, that’s just me … :-) There are many more people who want to walk in, touch and try out a system.

Also, Costco has sold Dell computers for the last 4 years. Not in the stores but through the website.
