China Detains 3 Over Wireless Cheating Scheme

High-tech cheating isn’t new. Using cell phones, text messaging, stuff like that. This is a little more … er, sophisticated … except that the people supplying the service really needed to get some longer-range equipment.
Police in Jiutai, in the northeastern province of Jilin, became suspicious when a mini-bus remained parked outside a school hosting the exam on Thursday, Xinhua said. Inside, they found three people, “two of them staring at a computer screen and talking into a walkie-talkie,” Xinhua said.
A student in the examination hall used a wireless microphone to read out the questions and received the answers from the van, Xinhua quoted their confessions as saying. Source: Yahoo! News
We Say: Much like in Japan, the Chinese national entrance exam is considered make-or-break … in this case they charged the person $1500. With that kind of money, like I said, they could have opted for something a little longer-range. Though I wonder how, reading the questions aloud, the student himself was not caught …
