The Sony PSP is loved and hated. The screen is amazing, the device is fun to hack, but the games and UMD format are not the best (although I love playing Burnout Revenge!) Sony is hoping to jump start the product with a price drop. Source: fosfor

I know some people aren’t with me, but I love my PSP. The games I have for it are crazy fun(I agree that Burnout Revenge is absolutely awesome) and it really is my only portable “dvd” player. The screen is quite stunning.

Some people I know have put it down, but for me I’ll pick it up at least 3-4 times a week, maybe once a day if I’m not busy. There’s just so many things you can do with it.

I still dont think the price drop was far enough. Nintendo rules this handheld market, and with how badly UMD has done, PSP really doesnt have a good reputation.

I do think the games are better for the PSP, but they need to drop the price to at least what the DS sells for, if not lower. If they would have a blowout sale for these at $99 I bet they would sell a TON, but it wont do hardly aything at $170 :(

I think $169 is the right price point, it’s just that I’m a little disappointed in what it can do.

It seems like there should be a clear path to sync all data with Outlook and there’s not. There should be a clear path to surf the web and there’s not.

Most anything outside playing games over transferring Tivo shows involves changing the firmware, and even then you hve to buy a specific one.

Maybe I just need to play one for awhile and the games will be enough to justify the price.

  5. » Portable Video iPod Enlarger » Blog Archive   Alice Hill’s Real Tech News - Independent Tech says:

[…] At first glance it sounds like a good idea until you do the math. Instead of squinting at your iPod’s small video screen, why not pop the Portable Video iPod Enlarger from Hammacher Schlemmer and enjoy a larger 7″ viewing experience? But when you do the math on the iPod cost plus this $249 add on, not to mention having to carry more stuff around, you may as well get a PSP for your troubles (and $169) and play some games along with your movies and music. An iPod slides into the back of the video player and is protected by a clear plastic cover, and the dual headphone jacks allow two people use the video player without disturbing fellow travelers. The device has an AV port for output to a television, charges an iPod while in use, and has an on-screen menu display for quick set up. […]
