Good thing they decided to wait until April 2 to have the actual news conference … though some people still wonder if this is an April Fool’s Day prank. None of the Beatle’s songs are available by download, but an announcement of a joint “exciting new digital offering” from both EMI and Apple has raised hopes.

EMI said it would hold a news conference Monday at its London headquarters with its chief executive, Eric Nicoli, and Apple boss Steve Jobs “and a special live performance.”

The company gave no further details. EMI has been The Beatles’ record label since the early 1960s. Source: CBS News

We Say: Steve Jobs is going to be there? Gotta be something big.

Update: According to Reuters, the deal involves Apple selling EMI’s songs free from copy protection, but does not include the Beatles.

Update 2: Confirmation this morning that’s it’s the DRM-free announcement in the update. No Beatles, but still an exciting announcement.
