XBox 360 vs PS3 Cost Savings In Beer

By Alice Hill
RealTechNews
I wrestled long and hard with the XBox 360 vs. Playstation 3 decision and it basically came down to this: I’m not paying insane markup prices for a 1.0 release. True, the Xbox 360 still has issues, but at a fraction of the price, and with many many more great games, and a compelling online experience, I decided to save my green and go green and white for now.
Or you could let the gang in the Microsoft games marketing department say it better with this handy beer photo. In the end, it’s a tad heavy-handed, but the assessment is right on the money. Save your money! Source: joystiq

Steve says:
Yeah I totally agree. Better yet. Buy a PS1. You would save loads of cash. There are a ton of great games and its eco- friendly. Hell it can even play your favorite CD’s. No point in spending so much more in a product that offers new innovative features or at least attempts to look to stick around for the next 10 years. Hell by then your liver will be shot from all the beer you will obviously be drinking.

Why every xbox publicist say you save $100… they sound like the xbox 360 and the ps3 were the same, not even close.

She’s a shill. Microsoft pays bloggers to tout their products. Notice the lack of any sort of logical argument.
Here’s how it went: Microsoft marketing comes up with an idea involving beer and the price difference between the XBox 360 and PS3, never mind the fact that the PS3 has more features built-in and has free online gaming. So they send it to one of their shills and ask them to take a picture and write a story about it. Then they tell their other shills to write a story about the story.
If Microsoft gives free beer out, and gives free laptops, it’s not much of a stretch to actually give free money.
This site sold out it’s integrity. Of course, maybe they’ve always been a Microsoft pawn.

Why does the truth hurt so many people?
If the PS3 would be the same price as the xbox360 everyone would want one, but they decided to make it hundreds more because of a stupid blu-ray dvd player! Do the games use it - NO, so why make everyone buy it? Sony tried to take over the hi-def movie market at the same time, and failed so far.
Mike
Lower the price for the PS3 to the same as xbox360 and then the PS3 will be serious competition. Until then, I will keep playing my awesome PS2 with GOW1 and GOW2 and laugh at everyone who spends a small fortune on “next-gen” when you have to then buy a 1080p television for a true experience. How many of the ps3 adapters went out and shelled out a good $2000 or more for a tv to go with it?????
Damn I hate fanboys - if you have a legit argument, then fine - but NOTHING has shown the ps3 is better at ANYTHING(except folding@home) than the xbox360. Get over it. Maybe in a couple years the difference will show, but it doesn’t yet!

It is an apples and oranges argument. If you add HD DVD to the XBox, then you level the playing field, and surprise, the prices fall in line!
That said, Sony has handled manufacture and marketing of the PS3 very badly.

As poster above notes - add HD-DVD you have a roughly equivalent system (minus the CPU power). At the same price?
Maybe we should compare a Wii to an Xbox360? How many beers for the Wii? Plenty.. Im sure.. then you can Wii all you want. Very silly fanboy crap.

The blu-ray drive in PS3 isn’t just for movies. It’s for more gaming content. Sony can fit larger maps, better textures and more code on a 50GB blu-ray disc than Microsoft can fit on the 10GB DVD9 that comes standard with an xbox 360.
Long term, of course Microsoft will need to switch to a higher-capacity optical drive in the 360 for gaming in order to stay competitive. And when you consider that, xbox 360 no longer has any price advantage over the PS3.

If you didn’t buy an xbox360 or a ps3, just imagine how much more beer you could have!!!
Besides, it’s a common known fact that PC’s can play games which means you don’t even need that other junk.

It’s not about the beer, it about picking the right time to buy a new console. A PS3 is a 1.0 product. The games are not there yet, and the price is still TOO high. That was my filter.
The XBox 360 was hyped and overpriced when it launched. It took some time for the games to take advantage of the new platform, it took time for the price to come down, and the bugs are still being worked out of the hardware.
I will buy a PS3. Just not today.

I’m certainly not a fan boy of either system. But looking at it objectively, I don’t understand the argument that the XBox is so much cheaper than the PS3 if one wants to also watch High Def. movies. To compare apples to apples, I’ve looked up the cheapest XBox and PS3 configurations where I can get a gaming console, a hard drive, and a high definition movie player. Here’s what I found:
From Amazon.com:
New XBox Core System: $299.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-VHMSFT-882224035835-Xbox-System/dp/B000B43OXU/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-0979619-0195965?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1174921004&sr=8-2
20 GB Hard Drive: $89.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-20GB-Hard-Drive/dp/B000B6ML32/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-0979619-0195965?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1174921004&sr=8-1
HD-DVD player: $199.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-HD-DVD-Player/dp/B000JHO4L0/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-0979619-0195965?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1174921199&sr=8-1
Total XBox price: $587.
PS3 (includew 20 GB hard drive and BluRay player): $499
PS3 (includes 60 GB hard drive and BluRay player): $599
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-60gb-PlayStation-3-60GB/dp/B0009VXAM0/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1_s9_rk/104-0979619-0195965?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&s9r=8a5801be0d117bc7010d3a74224705dc&itemPosition=1&qid=1174921274&sr=8-1
So the Sony setup is even cheaper than the Microsoft setup!
I acknowledge that if you don’t want the ability to watch high def movies or what to store stuff on your system the XBox is not as expensive, but when you compare apples to apples the PS3 is actually cheaper.

I guess people forget that you get a free Blu Ray player with a PS3 seeing as a standalone blu ray player costs $800 - $1000.
According to Gamespot, PS3 just got its first 9.0 or higher game, Oblivion. Too bad it was on the 360… a year ago… and that version scored a 9.6 compared to the 9.5 PS3 could muster.
Bottom line is if you are stupid enough to buy a PS3 now, don’t go rag on 360 users. Sony made us all believe that this was a super computer and would offer insane graphics. Now they changed that story to, “It takes time for us to develop for this system.” Keep changing your story Sony.

Just bought a PS3, its first gen games (like motostorm) are already looking better then 2nd gen 360 games.
Sure it costs more, but you get more. I’d rather be able to watch HD movies, and play better games, then drink all that beer…

I’m a fan on sony.
I got psx on early release and ps2 on first day release. but i wouldnt buy a PS3, at leats not yet.
I have a 360 and i love it. i bought a 2nd hand one for £200(premium) with gears of war, and bought Dead or alive 4 seperate. so cost me about £215 altogether (btw im english).
Xbox live is easy and i love the gamer score points. and the whole system. its easy even for me, great fun with RL friends
the ps3 has many fetures but i really dont think it will take off just yet as it only has about 10 ps3 games out atm. and its heavy price tag. when Metal gear solid 4 comes out it will rocket, I’ll probly rent one and clock MGS4 as i’m a massive MGS fan but cant afford 2 consols and atm im really happy with my 360

The Truth says:
Here we are in the future, ps3 is turning out just like ps2, ITS STUPID WHO WILL EVVVVER!!!! USE A DVD DRIVE FOR GAMES (6 years later ps2 brought it to the attention of the gaming industry and now Microsoft uses various dvd technologies) now sony is doing the same with blu-ray and the industry is quickly adopting this because it has more space to fit material per disc…period. end of story…Ps1… WHO WILL EVER NEED TO USE THE STUUUUPIDDDD CD-ROM DRIVE CARTRIDGE IS WHERE ITS AT AND SAVES MONEY…true…but in the end…progress favors moving forward over money..it’s inevitability….money saving schemes will only last so long before people want the best and wish to be on the cutting edge…then as more people buy, the price drops and its more widely standardized…and where is sony…on the edge leading the way like they always have. This is how it will end up in 2010..just wait all you assuming asses just you wait.

now let’s stack up some hard drives wireless adapters blu ray drives standardized pc accessories bluetooth headsets charging cables 50gb games (vs 8gb dvds) third party operating systems that don’t void warranties (im running linux with a full suite of emulators ((snes9x epsxe (((that’s right super nintendo games on my ps3 and my warranty is still in tact))) genesis nesticle neo rage)) in addition to the ps3 game boot os) a fully featured web browser that supports torrents flash java all kinds of streaming audio/video and is not restricted in content a few cardboard boxes and shipping receipts for bricked consoles a couple of scratched or broken dvds (shut up, it happens, its a fact i have seen the product of 360s eating discs with my own eyes). if you don’t know what im talking about, you don’t deserve an opinion. if you believe this article you DESERVE to be playing an xbox. this is a short list btw, from the top of my head. seriously im not going to try and deter anyone from buying a 360, it’s no skin off my ass either way. if you want a 360, i mean really want one, go right ahead you deserve what you get. another thing, look up 2.4 for ps3, it puts the 3 on par and ahead of the 360 in EVERY facet of the online game, it also introduces in game soundtracks. throw in some home and some trophies and the fact that it’s free and FASTER that’s right the ps3 has dedicated servers for its online games.

well ya its here in the future and if you stil;l; think the ps3 will some day be better your crazy its not better in specs than the 360 and they waitied toooooo long to release it and what?!?! sony never even came close to the xbox 1 the xbox one came out slow and ripped the market out of its hands hence the reason the 360 took off so well and still going well. ALSO BOTH ARE OUTDATED!!! so how can the ps3 make some huge come back? itll be 2010 and we’ll already have a new xbox and probably a new PS system so get over it. either way PC games own these i love my 360 though i rip madden and any xbox only games like gears of war etc. sony lost my interest long ago in the games market i do love there televisions and cameras tho
