Google Hangs Up on Cell Phone Rumors

Oh well, that didn’t take long. Despite comments from Google Spain chief Isabel Aguilera, it looks like any hardware from Google is not coming anytime soon. Instead, rather than a shift from their software focus, they want to concentrate on adding software to cell phones.
“At this point in time, we are very focused on the software, not the phone,” The Australian Financial Review today quoted Kimber as saying during his speech at the Search Engine Room conference in Sydney.
Kimber said Google was keen on porting its search and other technologies to mobile devices, but it was not interested in entering the crowded handset market, as Apple has recently done with its iPhone. Source: Sydney Morning Herald
We Say: We had the same level of excitement last year when rumors of a Google computer surfaced, and those didn’t pan out. There are a lot of analysts’ notes on this subject though, so we might see something someday, but it would likely be a long time out.
