Palm’s (Sorta) Answering Shot to the iPhone

We all know about the iPhone, so why even bother linking to my previous post … oh, heck, I’ll do it. Anyway, Palm has “sorta” answered back. They’ve hired Paul Mercer, the former Apple software engineer, who previously founded Pixo, which created a development system used by Apple to conceive the first version of the iPod UI.
“He’s the best of the best in this space,” said Paul Saffo, an adviser to Samsung and a Silicon Valley forecaster. “The guy has a knack for designing complex systems in ways that are accessible.” Source: The New York Times
We Say: It’s been said by analysts since the intro of the iPhone that vendors would have to switch from hardware design to software design to compete. Although it now offers devices with Windows Mobile as a platform, it’s been the venerable (old?) PalmOS that has been at the heart of Palm’s offerings.

Weird — I kept looking over the article, over and over, to see where the “answering shot” was.
They hired a design expert. Very nice. Where’s the competing product? Will they have one within 1 year?

I own a Palm VX And a new IPAQ hx2494. USABILITY COUNTS!
The IOAQ hqs lots of neat features and many neat things. Unfortunately, Win Mobile is a dog, and the IPAQ needs lots of soft resets. The old PALM hardware with the old OS is much more user friendly.

Are people that still use the term “space” rather then market taken seriously anymore? I don’t think so.
