I am running windows xp and have the PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Card in my laptop, a belkin N1 router which converts back to the G. My problem is using the computer wireless it shows 54.o MBS and excellent but it is so slow it will not even let me attach a small note to an email without timing out. It works fine wired. I realize this is someone elses post and problem but I did not know how to start a post and seems like a lot of smart people read this forum. So if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Also if anyone can move this to its own link, please do so. As you can see, I am new at this and totally frustrated! can any help. My favorite confession had to be that soon XPS systems will be getting tech support from the U.S. and Canada (#16). This would mean someone like me wouldn’t have to escalate (you may recall my Vista upgrade woes) in order to get effective help … or to fulfill this question from the comments on the Direct2Dell blog post, “When will I be able to understand the person at the other end of the phone?” Although of course, it will be limited to their high-end XPS systems, still. Oh well, … little steps (I hope). Share and Enjoy:These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. Installation of Vista is like walking on [aero] glass. I've attempted installations about 5 or 6 times so far in hopes to get a good install (I'm a perfectionist.) Being paranoid, I create Ghost backup images every step of the way in order not to corrupt the installation with a bad driver. Let me tell ya, ya just never know when you're going to get the BSOD. Installed nForce 4 drivers--took a dive. Installed the latest Creative drivers--took a dive. Installed Adobe Acrobat Professional (required for work)--application dies. Installed the latest nVidia drivers--games stated to work on Vista won't even install. Not to mention that Vista absolutely AVOIDS putting the boot manager on a SATA partition. If you have a SATA in combination with IDE's, sure it'll install to the SATA, but put the freakin' boot partition on the IDE! Sooo, you gotta turn off all IDE's in the BIOS to force Vista to install the boot manager to the SATA drive because Vista isn't compatible with the latest technology and isn't smart enough to install to the boot manager to a new generation device (if ya wanna call it "new"). If you don't force Vista to install the boot manager to the SATA drives in this way, you'll have to put the DVD into the drive to boot or it won't boot at all. The problem isn't just Dell. I built my PC from scratch (dual core). Creative and nVidia are both sleeping silently with driver support, week after week. I keep checking back and the same versions are still resident on their support site. In summary, I have a partial Vista installation backed up to a Ghost image awaiting the day when/if driver and application support exists. Who knows? By then maybe we'll be past the Vista ME days and into a new operating system. Inevitably, Vista is going to force people to look elsewhere. I know I have, having tested out Dreamlinux, Sabayon Linux, and various live CD's. I even installed a VMWare version of Mac for the heck of it, but honestly, Linux is so far behind the times, chunky, and "Windows 95'ish" that it isn't even a contender. And Macs--I have no use for them either with the exception of being forced to be compatible with media companies. At this point in time, people really have no other choice than to remain on their functional XP systems. (XP always installs like a dream, btw--on EVERY system I've installed to.) Quote:
