SanDisk Sansa e260 Digital Audio Player

With the hype for the iPods and Zunes it’s easy to forget that SanDisk is one of the major players in the personal audio field. So it’s good to know there is a decent alternative in the Sansa e200 series, SanDisk’s flagship audio line.
On DigitalReviews.net they are reviewing the Sansa e260 in particular.

I can’t believe I just read that entire review and never found out what audio formats the player supports. Or, for that matter, what video formats, or what DRM formats.
It mentions I need Windows XP but then says the player shows up as USB memory and can have files drag-n-dropped in. So why shouldn’t it work on MacOS or Linux?
Why do I need a Windows Media Player?
Can I use Mp3’s ripped from CDs? Can I use my iTunes purchases? If I have a library for my iPod, is it useful on the Sansa?
Without any of this info, what good is the review? Do they assume everyone starts a new music library every time they buy a new mp3 player?

The unit works fine under the “MSC” mode in Linux and should too under MacOSX. It will appear as a mass storage device. It supports MP3s natively and WMP10 DRMed files, the latter requiring WMP10 to transfer and requires the unit to be in the “MTP” mode. Many types of video formats can be converted by the included Media Convertor, which ends up with MOV (quicktime) files. You can rip your own CDs, but your iTunes bought tracks will not work, but the iTunes incompatability should be a given.

Thanks, Deww, for beating me to it and providing those details! I only just saw the questions that Steve posted.
I wrote the review basically for the average consumer and on purpose did not want to burden the write-up down with too much technical details. Your questions are valid though even though beyond what most consumers might want to know about a device.
