Skype Mini Cards: The End of Business Cards?
By Alice Hill
RealTechNews
I read an article not long ago that claimed the briefcase industry was in trouble if not in imminent danger of going the way of the fedora as an everyday business accessory. Men no longer needed hard cases to lug around the “Johnson file” and instead switched to backpacks, laptop bags, rolling briefcases, and super modern lightweight portfolios. At the same time, the business card - long the staple of meetings and trade shows has begun showing a similar fate. When was the last time someone handed you a card? And do you even own a card scanner and all that business?
Today a company called Moo.com has launched Skype Mini Cards: silly little mini cards with a custom jokey message on one side and your Skype ID and number on the other. Think of it as the MySpace version of business cards.
We Say: I LOL’d. NSFW. !!11!! Actually, We Ask: Do you still carry and distribute business cards, and do these appeal to you more?

If anyone handed me one of these in place of a real business card I’d laugh at them.

What we need is a small device with USB ports (Host and device) that can hook up to a person’s memory key and download the business card info to their key, as well as upload the other person’s info. Additionally, it could have a small scanner and speaker (for easy dialing) and a small OLED display. Make it fairly compact, of course.
The whole thing would not need to be bigger than a typical USB key drive itself, and could act as a key drive as well. The scanner operation would be used by waving it over the other person’s “old style” business card.
Lastly, make it pretty cheap - not more than double the prce of a similar capacity memory key (It would need power and some smarts). If they can do this for a shuffle, why not?

Are you kidding me? What a joke. People who work outside of the dotcoms wouldnt use this crap. Maybe your 16 year old daughter can hand them out at the movies to boys.
How unprofessional can you get.

How about using the new .mobi domains to have a cellphone based e-business card? Simply type in their domain in any phone worldwide with internet access, and up comes business card info.

I was just handed a business card and gave one out just last week at a meeting. I work for a Japanese company and I like the little ceremony of handing over your business card.
These would never do for business. I thought the Palm had a facility to beam over your business cards to another Palm.

Snopesman says:
I wouldn’t write off the business card as of yet … I certainly wouldn’t want to hand this off to a vendor, either, which is the most common place I give them out. Most of the times I get cards it’s from sales people and for them it’s all about appearance. I expect people trying to sell something to me to have a professional appearance … and this doesn’t cut it.

OK, this is something you’d get laughed out of a bar with. Even the cheapest stock paper business card with flat black ink is better than this.
Completely unprofessional.

Horrible comparison. Briefcases don’t have network effects. I can use a briefcase and you can use a laptop bag and the meeting still goes down as usual. Unless you show up with some knd of hippy, tie-dye have a nice day bag (kind of like the sample Skype card), in which case I may doubt your credabillity.
Business cards have huge network effects. If I use business cards and you use a bluetooth device we can’t exchange information easily - and vice versa.
Since this is tech news, I will assume it panders to a more gadget centric auidence than the typical business meeting. Sorry but a 55 year old CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation probably hasn’t figured out his BB yet. Unfortionately, business cards are with us for awhile. Sad because I would love to be able to beam them between BBs and Palms.

Joe T. says:
At the end of the day, business cards are still easier on everyone than beaming or flashing or whatever.
Scenario 1:
“Here’s my card.”
“Ah, thank you.”
[pockets card]
Scenario 2:
“Let me beam my info over.”
“OK, uh… I only have infrared. Do you have infrared?”
“No, I only have Bluetooth, but maybe we can do a USB link…”
[much fumbling ensues]
“Oh, darn, my battery’s about dead. Do you have a pen, I’ll just write my e-mail on this napkin and you can e-mail me later…”

Simpson says:
The most common use I have for “business” cards right now is for personal contacts — I paid $5 for 500 printed with my home info and email address on it, and whenever I meet someone at the library or at a party or wherever, and need to exchange info with them, I hand them a card. Most people are really thankful it’s not on an old receipt or something.

I know I am late to the party, but in case it matters, I got my business cards at BuyDirectPrinting.com. Talked to a guy named Trevor over there who walked me through the whole process - got my cards a week later, and absolutely love them. Thought about trying the Moo Cards, but I just don’t know how to get all my info on them…

Dear Sirs,
I am Nicolas , I am new to this forum. I didn’t find relevant
thread to post this, and my
apologies, if I posted in the wrong place,
please advise.
Few months ago, I found information about
investment private clubs, that are rarely published on
official investment resources. The yields, which participants could
receive by joining in such
funds, appeared
surprisingly high at
first, but as I searched more feedbacks about them, I could not pass on the opportunity. These days, I consider
myself being the successful
entrepreneur. To take my online adventures on the next level, I
set up the blog, which
is always updated with detailed information
about online investing. You can see it, follow this URL. I would be happy to receive
everyone’s feedbacks.

Greetings
everyone,
My name is Thomas Garcia , this is my first
post. I wasn’t sure where to make this post, and my apologies, if I posted inappropriately,
please advise.
About this time last year, I discovered information about
investment programs, that do not trade publicly. The yields, which participants could
receive by joining in such programs, looked
shockingly high at
first, but as I searched additional
information about them, I began to make a lot of money. Guess what, today, I consider
myself being the successful
player. My next step, is marketing field, so, I
established the blog, which
is always updated with detailed information
about investment
programs. To see my

I would deeply appreciate
everyone’s comments.
