Internet Explorer 7 — Start Your Download Engines

By Michael Santo

Looks like my earlier info was right. As I wrote earlier, Internet Explorer 7 (Final) has been released for download. I had a feeling this was going to be the case since I was invited to a dinner tonight with the IE7 team.
We Say: Strangely, at the time of this writing, it’s not showing up on Microsoft’s own IE7 page. It still says RC1. However, you can download a Yahoo! Optimized version (which means a lot of extra Yahoo! stuff, right) from FileForum, or SoftPedia has a generic version. I’m sure more download sites will show up shortly.
Soon as I installed it, I found I could no longer use Maxthon. It crashes just about every time. This didn’t happen with the Beta. Oh, well. I may be forced to make a complete switch.
Update: Microsoft has updated their website and you can now get the download straight from them.

IE7,Oh my God you are already here … but at Yahoo ?…
There really isn’t much to say about this.
I think people should all know IE7 is much hotter than its predecessor by now.
But what I don’t really expect is M$ let Y! to win the top prize here.
6 years, all the waiting press…

Just a quick recommendation to our readers: Wait a few days before setting it up on your boxes, and browse the blogosphere to get people’s impression on the new release. One can never be too careful with new products, even if they were extensively tested previously.

*GROAN* Now I will have to make the rounds to explain to all of my friends and relatives how to reenable the menus. Thanks for shoving this down everybody’s collective throats, Microsoft!
By the way, Firefox’s implementation of tabbed browsing is vastly superior.

Maxthon works fine for me after the IE7 installation. It still has features that I can’t do without like drag-to-search, ad-blockers… I hope similar things for IE show up.

Alice Hill’s Real Tech News - Independent Tech» Blog Archive » Quicklooks: Internet Explorer 7 vs. Firefox 2 After a Week (or so) says:
[…] Nope, it wasn’t installation that was the problem. It was usage. And let me be frank … with only one of the two next-gen browsers. I mentioned this in my prior post about the IE7 download … Maxthon (latest … and it keeps moving so I won’t put a specific version) crashes silently to the desktop — and sometimes within seconds of launch. This didn’t happen with IE6 and I’ve used Maxthon as my default tabbed browser because I didn’t like switching back and forth between FF and an ActiveX-supporting browser (more later). More investigation at the forum at Maxthon’s website showed the silent crash happens to some people even with IE6 installed. But on my PCs (and I have a ton of ‘em), none of them crashed with IE6 and Maxthon. […]
