3/4 of US Adults Have Mobile Phones

Cell Phone

I looked at this story, and I thought … that’s all?  Only 75%?  Probably because of where I live, the SF Bay Area, I tend to think that 90% or more have cell phones.  I admit that I do know a few people who don’t have them (actually, I know 2 … my in-laws, who are from Poland, and who can’t seem to get some of this tech stuff … though I did manage to convince my technophobic mother-in-law to try the Internet … which she now loves!), but not many.

Nearly three quarters of U.S. adults subscribe to a mobile phone services, more than those who say they subscribe to a landline service, a market research firm said Friday. About a quarter of mobile phone users consider the device their primary means of communication, and about four in 10 say their cellular phones give them a sense of personal security, Harris Interactive said.  Source: TechWeb

We Say: I remember seeing a Bizarro comic (not the Superman Bizarro, BTW) where people were chasing after the last person in the world who didn’t have a cell phone, so I’m doubly amazed this isn’t higher.  :-) I’d also like to see a study on the number of kids who have cell phones, too … broken down by age, perhaps?  Based on the number I see around the Bay Area, it’s probably higher than you would think.

Update: this man had been stuck in his car for 4 days after a crash and now says he will buy a cell phone.

I’m one of the holdouts you’re talking about. If I did get a cell phone, I’d refrain from giving out the number. It’s a continual source of irritation to me that I am constantly am being interrupted by friends and relatives who say “Hold on, I’m getting a call…” and then fumble for their cell phones. I know you can turn cell phones off, but people are much more likely to pester you with trivial messages if they know that you can more easily check them (as is possible on a cell phone.) In essence, I do not like continually being “on call.”

It’s always good to fix your credit first and then apply for a rewards credit card. Otherwise it will cost you more to have those cards. There are some nice offers for all types of credit at
