T-Mobile UK Offers Coverage Check Before You Sign Up

How annoying is it to switch cellular carriers, only to find out your new carrier has lousy service in the area you live in or the areas you frequent? I use this site … or at least I have, in the past, to find out information of the coverage in the SF Bay Area. Obviously doesn’t help people outside the area though.
In the UK, T-Mobile is offering potential subscribers a way to get coverage data before they sign up … and without having to take a phone out for a trial.
Using a software package called StreetCheck, T-Mobile will be able to check coverage levels to a greater accuracy than before. It will even be able to analyse the difference between one end of a street and the other. “When you go to a T-Mobile store to buy a contract, before we sell you a contract we will ask you to give us the postcodes of three important places for you, to check the coverage. If the coverage is not up to scratch we won’t sell you a contract,” Robin O’Kelly, T-Mobile’s head of corporate communications, told ZDNet UK on Tuesday. Source: ZDNet UK
We Say: T-Mobile UK offers a 14-day cancellation policy if the signal you really get is not up to snuff. They also commented that, no, it doesn’t mean they feel there coverage is poor, but instead that they are extremely confident … for why else would they do it if they were not confident.
