Irony? H.P. Sponsors “Privacy Innovation” Award

By Michael Santo

It’s no “secret” that H.P. is under investigation for the way it used pretexting and other underhanded methods to carry out an investigation into media leaks from its Board of Directors. In a story that’s bound to be a hit on The Daily Show tonight, H.P. is co-sponsor of an award on privacy innovation.

Nominees are currently being accepted for the fourth annual HP/IAPP Privacy Innovation award, which Hewlett-Packard gives in conjunction with the Maine-based International Association of Privacy Professionals. According to the award’s Web site, the prize was created to honor “strong and unique contributions to the privacy industry.” Source: MSNBC

We Say: It appears this is an annual award, so don’t blame them for poor planning. Interestingly, the site for the award has an archive of privacy-related stories which includes links to H.P. stories. Please feel free to insert your own joke or political cartoon here. :-)
