Chase Throws Out Info of 2.6 Million Customers as Trash

By Michael Santo

This is interesting. I don’t even through out anything even remotely financially-related without shredding it. Yet Chase mistakenly threw out computer tapes with customer info on 2.6 million customers on it. Granted it was in a locked box, and it’s not the same as me throwing out my statement with my whole credit card number on it, but still.

Chase Card Services said on Thursday that it mistakenly tossed out computer tapes with the personal information of Circuit City card holders. It said it believes the tapes, inside a locked box, were compacted, destroyed and buried in a landfill.

“We deeply regret that this has occurred and apologize to those impacted,” Chase Card Services Chief Executive Rich Srednicki said in a statement. Source: News.com

We Say: For all the affected customers, I can say, thanks for the apology … :-( Why does anyone still ask me if anything in this world is still private? I still get that question. :-)

I think maybe you made this story up.

I mean, why should I believe what you have written when you can not even spell “throw” correctly. (eg. “This is interesting. I don’t even through out…”) Every day I trash Spam that comes to me with words that are not spelled correctly in the Subject line.

I am sure you are a very bright and taleted person, but, in order to establish your credentials, you must learn to spell correctly.

I will take you seriously when you at least spell check your stuff.

    Thanks,

    Don S

Interesting theory. Although, maybe if you’d gone to the Chase website first, and seen their frontpage notice

(”Chase is notifying a segment of Circuit City credit card account holders that computer tapes containing their personal information were mistakenly discarded”)

first, instead of assuming that one wrongly-spelled word must mean a story was fabricated, you’d seem a bit less foolish.

And by the way, since you brought up the subject,

“I mean, why should I believe what you have written when you can not even spell “throw” correctly.”

is, in fact a question. questions generally have a question mark after them, rather than a period. There’s a grammar checker bundled conveniently with that spell checker.
