Vista Prices Leaked and Already on Amazon.com

I had someone ask me if there was such a thing as privacy anymore, since so many companies and organizations seem to lose laptops, leak information on the web, etc. etc. I said … no. Seems like Microsoft is no different, as they accidentally leaked Vista prices on the web today.
Of course, these were Canadian prices, but they still give you an idea of what the actual prices in the U.S. will be. Current XP prices were included for comparison purposes. Thanks to Ed Bott’s Microsoft Report.
FULL versions (all prices Canadian)
–Windows Vista Ultimate $499
–Windows XP Professional w/SP2 $429
–Windows Vista Business $379
–Windows Vista Home Premium $299
–Windows Vista Home Basic $259
–Windows XP Home w/SP2 $259
UPGRADE versions (all prices Canadian)
–Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade $299
–Windows XP Professional w/SP2 Upgrade $259
–Windows Vista Business Upgrade $249
–Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade $199
–Windows Vista Home Basic Upgrade $129
–Windows XP Home w/SP2 Upgrade $129
We Say: Vista Ultimate is $499 CDN? That’s $449 U.S. I can see I’ll only be getting it with a new PC.
Alice Adds: Thanks to RTN contributor Jimmy Daniels, you can find a hidden page on Amazon with the prices and a (whoops) release date of January 30, 2007. (And a $399 price tag.)

There’s never been an OS released that was worth $400. Just another M$ product that I’ll never use [a legal version of].

I agree with Jolok, how important are prices in a world of piracy? Companies like MS should have lower competitive prices if they want me to buy somthing I know I can get for free.

It costs how much? says:
They want how much?! I think Microsoft is going to have to spend a bit more time explaining what makes them think their OS is worth that much.

MIcrosoft is doing everything it can, including annoying legitimate users, to stomp out piracy; yet they continue to raise their prices. Seems pretty stupid to me.
