Treadmill Bike: Technology Gone Wrong

By Alice Hill
RealTechNews

This must be silly tech day, because this one defies logic. The whole point of a bike is that it frees you from the boring treadmill of the gym. Nothings beats racing down a hill with the wind in your hair. But the treadmill bike puts an end to all that and makes you look like a nimrod in the process.

Have you ever wished you could get a quality treadmill workout without paying expensive gym prices? Look no further than the Treadmill Bike by the Bicycle Forest. The Treadmill Bike offers the same fat burning benefits of a conventional treadmill without the membership fees!

* When the weather’s nice, the last place you want to be is cooped up in some stuffy gym. Imagine running through evergreen forests or strolling down country roads. All of this is possible thanks to the rugged design and all terrain tires on the revolutionary Treadmill Bike.

* Because the Treadmill Bike is also a mode of transportation, use it instead of your car for everyday tasks such as shopping, and traveling to school or your place of work.

Haha well I suppose they could run along side the Segway owners!

Hey, I got some ideas to make it better! First of all, put a chair there so you don’t waste so much energy. Then, you’ll need to change the treadmill to something easier to run on while sitting, maybe pedals? Yeah, then charge an extra $500 for the useful “mods” !

Great add ons. I would also add a saftey device, a spcial handle mounted bell ($500) and a carrying case shaped in an aerodynamic basket format (front and rear mountable $800)Plus an innovative and lightweight stand that can be “kicked” into position and then folded up when not in use. ($950)

How about an electric motor add-on so it would be easier?

This is obviously a bit of a farce. It “might” be halfway useful if the thing was geared to go faster than you are actually running - which would therefore require more effort on the treadmill.

What is so wrong with a normal bike!? This thing looks very dangerous, and you’ve got to look like an idiot while “riding” it…

My normally well-honed sarcasm skills are just not up to the task of commenting on how utterly absurd this product is. Treadmills simulate the activity of walking. Take the treadmill out of the gym? Sure…uh,WALK!!! One of the advantages touted on the website is that the treadmill belt protects your feet from “dirt and other contaminants commonly found on the earth’s surface.” Hello! Isn’t that why we have…uh, SHOES?!

C’mon, this has to be a joke.

OK, I just watched the “promotional video” for this thing and the NARRATOR can’t even keep from laughing. Also, this is from the same people who bring you the “Couch Bike.” I guess the joke’s on me.

Check out the gallery of home-built recumbent bikes. Pretty cool, actually.

Yep, definitely a joke. I think the fact that not everybody gets it only adds to the genius. If the Bicycle Forest is really interested in selling anything, it seems to be their BikeCAD program http://www.bikeforest.com/CAD . Looks like a lot of my favorite builders use it.
