Modern, or Just Impersonal? U.K. Worker Fired by Text Message

So, do you consider this to be a “modern” way to fire someone? Katy Tanner received her dismissal notice via text message when Blue Banana, a chain body-piercing studio in Cardiff, Wales, was unable to reach her via phone (landline or cell, I suppose). She had taken a sick day with a migraine and, naturally, turned off her phone.
“We’ve reviewed your sales figures and they’re not really up to the level we need,” shop manager Alex Barlett wrote in the message. “As a result, we will not require your services any more. Thank you for your time with us.” Source: ABC News
We Say: The firm had some justifications for their use of text messaging, instead of a more personal touch … but I’m not so sure they fly. You can read the full article here.
