Japanese Smell Recorder

A device looking for a market? I can’t find the original article, but as noted in this one, I recall that there was an experiment by by NTT Communications Corp., emitting smells from the seats during showings of “The New World“. Now we have a device that can record and play back odors, though most likely it would not fool a scent-master like a dog.
The new device, developed by scientists at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, analyzes smells through 15 sensors, records the odor’s recipe in digital format and then reproduces the scent by mixing 96 chemicals and vaporizing the result. Source: AP via Yahoo! News
We Say: OK, despite the reference to perfume sales, I’m still trying to think of a real market for this. More thoughts here.

Ok, this makes much more sense when I read the article, because at first I was wondering what “Japanese Smell” was.
