Talk About a Pre-Order … PS3 Being Sold Online Now

PS3By Michael Santo

Now this is a pre-pre-order. The Playstation 3 is not due out in Japan until Nov. 11, with the U.S. and Europe to follow on Nov. 17. Online site play.com is offering to take orders online from Europeans, right now.

The next generation consoles are on offer as “pre-orders” to Europeans for £550 ($1,020) at online shop, play.com. The website says that because of an expected European shortage, it cannot guarantee delivery before Christmas. The model for sale on play.com is the 60Gb model. When Sony announced prices earlier this year it said that gamers would pay about £425 ($785) in the UK for the top end version of the machine. Source: BBC News

We Say: Overpriced, even for early adopters? Hey, they can’t even guarantee delivery before Christmas, and I don’t think the games included (Formula One 06, flying game Warhawk and the karaoke-themed Singstar) are worth the extra cash.

Alice Adds: So let me get this straight: if I act now, I get to experience an expected shortage vs. an actual one, a non-existent console, no killer ap games, no hope of a pre-Christmas delivery, and a $1,020 price tag. Yeah, that sounds like a great deal. Thanks play.com. You’re all aces.

Unbelievable.

From a marketing perspective, its a clever move. Especially given the publicity they got in the Uk market ; even on the bbc news site (Anyone confirm if it made it onto the bbc news (tv)?)

If anyone buys this mess of a console, you’re smoking some cheap crack. $1000+ for a console? Sorry. I buy myself a Wii console or Xbox360, 2 extra controllers and 3 games and a 7900GT GPU for my PC with money to spare to take the girlfriend to the show. Maybe some popcorn left over and a pepsi. I pass on this farse in a quick way.

Microsoft has rattled Sony so bad they dont know which way is up..The market leader is clearly following the upstart…Sad to watch but ohhh so much fun. This PS3 is priced out of reach of 90% of the Sony fan boys anyway lol…Also if this PS3 breaks like a PS2 will the fan boys be able to replace it as often when its so expensive…I think not
