Cingular To Roll Out The “World’s Smallest” Flip Phone: The Pantech C300

Remember all those studies that came out claiming that (surprise) people just want a cell phone to be a phone and not a TV or an iPod or a video game. For those of us who want to keep it simple, here’s another new phone from the gang at Pantech claiming to be the world’s smallest flip phone. And lucky, for me at least, it is making its debut in the US on the Cingular network.
Pantech has announced what it claims is the world’s smallest clamshell GSM phone is now on sale in the US, courtesy of North American carrier Cingular. The C300 was unveiled back in April. It measures just 6.8 x 4.3 x 1.9cm when closed and weighs just 70.9g, [2.72 inches tall, 1.69 inches wide and only 0.76 inches thick] Pantech said. Open it up and you’ll see the 1.52in, 262,144-colour main display. On the back is a 300,000-pixel camera (VGA) with a 4x digital zoom facility. Source: The Register
We Say: Pantech is the maker behind the Helio “Hero” phone which is also known as the MySpace phone we covered earlier. This form factor is interesting because it is more like a square than a thin rectangle. UPDATE: I found the phone on Amazon. It is $89 with a new plan and Amazon lists a pre-paid service option only, so not sure what a standalone price or a standard monthly account version will cost. But if the price it right and maybe a few cool color options, and this could give the RAZR a run for its money. True, the phone has many “non-phone” extras like a camera, but it looks like a product Cingular will market based on size, not bells and whistles. Now if it only has a strong enough antenna to work in my house….Cingular stinks in many SF locations, including my street.

I just bought this phone, and I really like it. For $120 I am not worried about losing it or damaging it. The reception is great, and Cingular will upgrade this phone to operate on a stand alone plan instead of pre-paid. The only thing it has that I don’t want is the camera. But for my purposes I wanted a small, simple, cheap phone that works well.

I just purchased the pantech C300 and I really like it..Super easy to use..Small eneough to carry in my pocket without a bulge. Great reception..Heck..it makes the razor look huge.

I just bought this phone and I must say it is worth excatly the $89.99 I paid for it. It is GARBAGE in all reality. I’ll stick with my RAZR for now ang give the “Chocolate” a try next.

I have this phone and im a teenager and i love it! even though its small i never lose it. like my friends are really surprised that i havn’t lost it yet
what ever you do….don;t drop it in the toilet. it will still work but you cant see the screen it flashes black and is hard to text. yes this means i have dropped it in the toilet. that pretty much the only thing that has happened to it other then hitting th floor billions of times.
