ASUS (Australia) Announces PhysX Card

ASUS PhysX P1 Card

OK, folks, here’s today’s alphabet soup: PPU, PhysX P1 and AGEIA.
If you already know what this adacadabra means, you may skip this snippet…
But let me assure you that (gaming) life will never be the same from today if you believe ASUS. The reason is that today they announced an add-in card with a PhysX Processing Unit.
In layman’s terms it means unparalleled interaction and dynamic motion.
What it really means is that all your explosions are so real now they will cost you an arm and a leg! (they haven’t dared to mention the price yet…)

Forget about canned animations and predetermined interaction. Water flows like in nature, different all the time, just like leaves in the wind.

We hope to bring you a hands-on review soon but in the meantime check out these specs here.
Did they really mean: Peak Instruction Bandwidth: 20 Billion Instructions/sec ??

Funny you mention the 386 math co-processor… Yep, had one of those too… In fact, I worked a fair bit with the original IBM PC and the subsequent models during my time at IBM! Good old days? Nah, I like what I’m working with these days much “betterer”…

Yes the Z50 and the 50sx was key IBM computers in my life at that point in time, my first spell check :) and I had the Math co for both
not that I think that needed it but then better to be safe than sorry
some cyrix chips I think it was.

but sure the above card is a bit of the same, and it my feeling that Ram and the Bus speed will not give you what you need and in general your better off with a all in one graphics card that deliver the final result ?

Is this just for games or would it help in 3D creation? Would it help speed up 3d Studio Max or Lightwave?
