Score one for the browser Opera and for Nintendo by teaming up to offer Web browsing on two new Nintendo platforms - the much admired (but still funny-named) Wii and the updated Nintendo DS Lite. Here are some screenshots of what Opera looks like in a non-PC environment.

We Say: Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Sony, you have a problem brewing up ahead.
I am a Firefox user myself, but this was a potential coup for Opera.

Opera mini is great, I use it on my cell. However, Nintendo needs to offer compatibility with more wireless security modes (read: ANY wireless security) if they hope to make this a successful venture.

If you’re doing something that is needing security you really should not be using a god damn HAND HELD VIDEO GAME MACHINE to do it with.

Adam, its not that he ‘requires security to browse the web’, but to associate with his AP. If your AP is ‘open’ / ‘unsecured’ anybody can connect to it, which can be very annoying in highly populated areas, especially when your neighbor decides to start bittorrenting off your AP and your connection speed completely drops and you get a letter from your ISP about movies that are being downloaded =)

Hace unos días os hablamos de la versión para Nintendo DS del navegador de Internet Opera, de las características principales y del uso que hará de la pantalla táctil (favoritos, doble navegación, modo DS, reconocimiento de la escritura,…) e in…

What the hell do you mean, ‘any security’?

I use my DS with my LinkSys wireless Router and WEP works just fine - are you an idiot or something?

  11. l0ne says:

As people into networking know, WEP is insecure and can be cracked easily (that is, I can find out what your password is and use the network in a very limited time). WPA is way better, but the DS does not support it, requiring you to either drop down your security or open your AP when you want the DS to connect to it.

A big score for trolltech too :) (Opera’s built on Qt, which allowed them to do the porting job incredibly quickly)

  13. K2 says:

We were not talking about ‘degrees of security’ - the original comment said that the DS does not have ‘any security’ and clearly WEP is a form of security.

WPA can be decrypted as well if you know what you are doing so pick your poison.

Question: what’s the point of hacking into the ds wifi? What can be stolen? Or is it just virus to be worried about.Yes I am a noob at hacking and what not, but I would like to know because I’m planning to buy the lite. Thank you for any positive feed back

UGH………. Who the hell would waste their time hacking into someones DS. IF you’re a hacker you will most likely target people another way. To even consider this a possible threat is pathetic. Also I’m sure someone wouldn’t spend more then an hour using this. Not a good target compared to a PC. It’s not like kids will be entering credit card numbers into their DS HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAAHAH.

  16. Coyote says:

The issue isnt that the DS would be hacked its that lowering your security to allow for the DS is a risk for any PC on the network.

Personally Im wondering if the card the browser will come on will have some memory and what type of storage it will have for things like bookmarks, cashe, cookies, etc.

This is wrong. Opera is not built on Qt. Opera for *UNIX* uses Qt for minor stuff like system dialog boxes, but that’s it. Opera for Windows, Mac, Symbian OS, etc. are clinically free of Qt code.
