Breaking news … so new I had to get it from Reuters Canada and not Reuters
At E3 in Los Angeles, Sony announced the release dates and pricing for the PlayStation 3. It will be available Nov. 11th in Japan and Nov. 17th in the U.S., priced at $499 for an entry-level machine.
The same unit, with a 20-gigabyte hard drive, will retail for 59,800 yen in Japan and 499 euros in Europe, where it also will debut on November 17. Source: Reuters Canada
We Say: That’s pretty pricey, and I’m not sure what a “non-entry level” machine would cost. Sony also unveiled a motion sensitive Bluetooth wireless controller, which surprised everyone.
Update: A 60GB version will cost $599. 2 million units at launch, 4 million by end of 06, 6 million by 3/31/07.
Update 2: The controller mentioned above can sense the motion of the pad through 360 degrees allowing the control of games simply by moving the controller around without actually touching the sticks or buttons. Unlike the Wii controller, the PS3 pad does not detect where it is being pointed.

Stephen says:
Why does 40 extra gigs cost another $100? I just bought a new Seagate 200 gig drive for $99. This machine should not even come with a 20 gig drive considering the cheap price of storage.
