Fighter Jet Auctioned Off on eBay

MIG-21

I always wondered where I could go to buy a fighter jet if IL-2 Sturmovik stopped being fun. Looks like the answer is eBay. A Chinese buyer, Zhang Cheng, has purchased a MIG-21f from a U.S. seller on eBay, for a bargain price of $24,730. He plans to use it to decorate empty space at his offices.

“I like to collect valuable items. I have the buying power and my company has an empty space where I can display the plane,” the newspaper quoted Zhang as saying.

The eBay Web site for the transaction shows the plane is currently located in Lewiston, Idaho. Source: ABC News

We Say: The plane was last flown in 1995, and it’s unclear whether the “decoration” process will involve cutting the plane into pieces. It’s also not clear if the purchase was done with Buy It Now. :-)

$25k?? that’s cheap! there’s plenty of smaller air-forces around the world that still depend on Fishbeds (NATO designation) for their defense. It’s very comparable performance-wise to our A-7 Corsair.

Some guy down the road from me has a USAF F-86 (non-flying) in his backyard. I have no idea why he bought it or how much he paid.
