MicroNav - the World’s Smallest Pointing Device

By Alice Hill
RealTechNews

Small mice are great - I have a tiny one I use for travel and the smaller shape is actually so easy to get used to, I am thinking of using it all the time. That said, here is a pointing device that is SOooo tiny it puts my travel Logitech to shame.

MicroNav - the electronics industry’s most compact and advanced OEM pointing device. Measuring less than 10mm x 10mm x 1.4mm, MicroNav is perhaps the world’s smallest OEM mouse, enabling precise, 360° cursor navigation for consumer handheld devices including cellular phones, wireless e-mail devices, PDAs, tablet PCs, GPS systems and even digital cameras. MicroNav, which is available in three standard configurations, Sensor-On-Board, Chip-And-Sensor and Drop-In-Module with mouse click buttons, supports solder re-flow and pick and place methods for high volume consumer electronics manufacturing. I have a hard time with the tiny “nipple” mice that they put in the center of some laptops… I don’t know if this will really be better.

I agree. I never liked “nipple” mice. Don’t think I would like this either.

I always loved the ‘nipple’ mice took a bit to teach your hand to use but once learned it became so natural that you didn’t have to pay attention the mouse cursor would just suddenly appear where you wanted it to be. (just wish they had continued with development they just always seemed to break after two or three years)

I love nipples… even though the laptop mice are hard erasers.
But controlling electronic devices with nipples is the ultimate goal for all geeks in general, I believe. Don’t worry guys, we’ll get there some day!

I absolutely loved my nipple mouse on my old compaq m70. If you can’t use them, you don’t have motor skills or something, they are much easier to use, and not to mention alot better for the wrist over extended laptop use.

I never got to use a nipple, but they seem very underdeveloped. It would merely take getting used to. That’s how it is with any pointing device. It’s not really whats better, it’s what works for you, just different.

Man, I thought notebook mice were small! I do believe we have a winner in the weird and small category, people! Hmm, don’t think this will be on my X-Mas list anytime soon….
