New Laser-based HDTVs on the way from Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi is coming out with a new species of high-def televsion that uses colored (red, green, and blue) lasers to produce the images rather than mercury lamps. Don’t hold your breath though, because they are not due to come out until late next year. But if/when they do, it will be yet another incremental revolution in television technology as the lasers use less power, result in lighter and thinner screens and boxes, and produce a wider range and intensity in colors. Compared to a similarly sized plasma set, one of these new boxes will be half the weight, and use one-third the power. Wow.
