DNA Jewelry to Remember Your Loved Ones

Couples version of DNA Pendants

People save locks of hair from loved ones, ashes, and there are even video headstones. Eiwa Industry Co. in Japan started this idea with pet DNA, but received numerous requests for similar pendants for human DNA, and has now started to sell the items.

The human DNA pendants come in two shapes. One resembles a rounded perfume bottle. The other is shaped like a stylized human face, cut in such a way that it can fit together with a second pendant of the same shape — “for couples,” (general manager Morihito) Ikai said.

Made of silver, the pendants are $428, including the cost of extracting DNA — usually from a strand of hair or piece of fingernail. The genetic material is placed in a crystal, which in turn is enclosed in the pendant. Source: AP via MSNBC

We Say: The couples’ version is shown above. Interestingly, although the idea of a keepsake is the main idea of this jewelry, according to the company, some people have expressed an interest in saving the DNA in case human cloning ever becomes possible.

Did Angelina and Tommy carry around vials of each other blood? Perhaps they could get the patent on the idea.

I can hardly wait for some bankrobber or other criminal to accidentlly leave behind their necklace and have a lawyer claim the cops obtained the DNA illegally.
