Did Dell Buy Alienware?

By Jimmy Daniels
Contributing Writer, RealTechNews

Speculation about Dell buying Alienware has been ongoing since a blog post by Voodoo PC CTO Rahul Sood.

Dell + Alienware = Dellienware. Is it possible? Yes, at least I think so. I won’t get too far into details as to why I believe this is going to happen, but I will offer some of my thoughts. Even though Dell has never been known to make acquisitions, times are changing and so is their brand positioning.

In a post from the Cnet blog, Rich Brown says he has had it confirmed by a contact at a high-end vendor who claims that two of his company’s suppliers confirmed that the deal has been done. He also claims that his company has received an influx of resumes from Alienware employees.

An Alienware PR representative did not deny the claim but instead forwarded us a prewritten statement from the company that said: “At this time, Alienware will not comment on any speculative stories or rumors concerning Dell and Alienware’s association. While we do believe that news stories like this are ultimately a strong positive reinforcement of the Alienware brand and the company’s success, we will not comment on speculation or potential future events. As always, Alienware is committed to offering consumers and businesses with the best high-performance, innovative PC products on the market and we remain manically focused on that goal.”

Dell did not return calls asking for comment. Source: CNet.

We Say: So this is how they’ve been planning on selling systems with AMD processors all along ;) . So, what will this mean for Alienware? Dell has received a lot of flak on their high end gaming systems, I have been happy with the one I purchased, but I’ll admit, the game I play the most has been Age of Empires 3, and that damn Napoleon, with some Diablo II and a little bit of Star Wars Battlefront II thrown in, so I know I’m not stressing them out like some of you guys. I hope they keep the Alienware computers and laptops the way they are because that was going to be my next laptop.

My laptop is a alienware on its way. So i dont know what this means for me.
But i hope dell dont try and screw over the alienware branding.

The whole point of Alienware is that they dont want a Dell, Hell i dont want a dell. Dell’s are woeful machines and working with and upgrading many shows there so problimatic, Alienware is doing so well because they ‘are’ Alienware and no one comes close to there stuff.

So if dell comes along and screws things over, no one is going to want one. Just hope Alienware stand strong on there values.
