Dixie Chopper Xtreme Lawnmower is 900ccs and Can Mow Football Field in 10 Minutes

By Alice Hill
RealTechNews
First we had the 345 HP Hemi BBQ, and now the world’s fastest riding lawnmower. You could run over three cats and a handful of kids before you even noticed. At $10,000, this isn’t for everyone, but when you can go 15 miles per hour and do a football field in 10 minutes, it sure makes it easy to do the lawn and then get back to serious weekend pursuits like drinking beer and lying in a hammock.
The Dixie Chopper Xtreme is the world’s fastest lawnmower. It has a 990cc 33-hp engine with the capability to mow grass at 15mph. Given it can take either a 60 or 72 inch cut, that’s a lawnmower capable of mowing a football field in under ten minutes or turn 8.7 acres of grass into lawn every hour all day. Source: Gizmag
We Say: Dixie Chopper XTreme sounds like the cutting edge. (Couldn’t resist!)

No One says:
Actually, the lawnmower Tim Allen “souped up” in one episode with a jet engine was a Dixie Chopper they made as a promotional gag for a trade show if memory serves.
March 7th, 2006 at 5:05 am
Eric Bernsee says:
Yes, the mower Tim Allen rode in the race against Bob Vila was Dixie Chopper’s jet mower, a regular Dixie Chopper to which owner Art Evans attached a 150-hp Chinook helicopter engine to prove his point about the durability of the frame and the product in general. Dixie’s latest stunt has been having a motorcycle built by the guys at Orange County Choppers. It’s a beauty!

World’s Fastest Lawnmower? According to whom? The guys on Monster garage turned a Ford Mustang into a Lawnmower that could do a 13 second quarter mile. “World’s Fastest” and “15 mph” are not two phrases that go all that well together.

“World’s fastest” mower here clearly means “World’s fastest production” mower. There’s a big difference between something that’s cobbled together and unique and something that is in actual production. A Ferrari or Lambrogini (or a Bugatti Veyron) (tops speeds of 200+ mph) could be considered the world’s fastest production car, but that doesn’t mean they’re faster than the cars built specifically to break landspeed records (600+ mph).
On a side note, I work about three blocks from Dixie Chopper, and they’re an awesome bunch of people to work with. They’re invested in the company I work for.

Here’s what I don’t get. What keeps you from fliping off the front when you hit a rock or a kid?! Looks like there should be a dash or windshield or something?

So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.
Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.
But trust me…. You don’t.
I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont know what you are talking about.
This is how bad info gets passed around.
If you dont know about the topic….Dont make yourself sound like you do.
Cuz some RTN’s belive anything they hear.

The “I work for …company” is a classic troll come on. I still want to know about my questions - what keeps you from flipping off the front if there’s no dash or windshield?

namesnotreallyimportant says:
Just for reference, a Chinook runs on two Allison T55’s producing 3000shp each. It’s unlikely that they’d be able to fit one of those on a lawnmower, let alone manage to provide it with enough fuel to run. If they did use a helicopter engine, I think it’s most likely that they would have used the smaller allison C20B. It produces about 400shp and is used in the Bell 206 and Hughes 500.

Sorry, before someone corrects me, made a mistake on that last one. Both those engines are actually manufactured by Lycoming, not Allison.

Mikey says:
I believe that would be the NASCAR-style seat belt.
One thing the article fails to point out is that this is a ***zero***-turn radius steering mower. It can spin like a top, if need be. Those are free wheel swivel casters on the front.

Alice says:
Seat belt + spin = sweet! Wish I had a lawn.
March 7th, 2006 at 8:28 pm
Eric says:
First, yes there is cup holder. And a cooler that fits just to the right of the seat.
Second, sorry but it was a Chinook helicopter engine that Art Evans put on the jet mower back in the late 1980s, early 1990s. The Great Race episode with Bob Vila and Tim Allen racing was the second finale of the second season of “Home Improvement.” 1993?
Also, Dixie Chopper took a production lawn mower and souped it up last spring to run as the “pace mower” — the first time a lawn mower has paced an auto race — at the Saluda, Va., speedway LMS class races. Pretty cool. Virginia state cop clocked the mower — in the turn — at more than 40 mph.
