How to: Download and Save YouTube Videos

The video clip website Youtube.com is a great place to find all sorts of cult videos swirling around the Internet. Most of the goodies are from the US comedy show Saturday Night Live, like the instant classic rap ode “Lazy Sunday” with a funny non-SNL west coast rebuttal “Lazy Monday” and this week’s Natalie Portman Rap. But how do you download and save these classics? Note: SNL pulled Lazy Sunday and if anything violates a copyright, we here at RTN do not endorse it, but for the other clips out there, here’s a way to not lose those great moments.
Step 1. Install the Greasemonkey Extension for Firefox.
Step 2. Right-click this .js file and select “Install User Script” (if you don’t see that option try step one again)Step 3. Now on every youtube video page there should be a red bar at the top, that says “Save As” to download Flash video. (see screenshots here)
Step 4. Right click the text in the red bar, select “Save Link As,” and save the file as a .flv file. Firefox will rty to save it as “get_video.php,” you need to change the “.php” to “.flv,” and change the first part to whatever you prefer.
–Now you need to either download a media player that runs .flv files, or download a program that converts them to other file types. Here are links to both:

I saw these online Food Loop viral videos the other day and thought they were insanely hilarious! I think they should be on YouTube. They load a little slow, but the wait is worth it trust me.

Just get the new real player. Visit a youtube page and a link pops up above the video. …downloads it into your library and stores the flv file in the user’s (hidden) documents and settings folder.
