Localization Bug Causes Windows Defender Install Issue

I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about this. Apparently if you don’t have the “Users” Group on your computer, Windows Defender won’t install. And I mean “Users” in English. Since “Users” is localized for some international versions of Windows, this is causing an “Error 1609″ when installing Windows Defender Beta 2. Microsoft has a KnowledgeBase article on it.
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
1. Create a new local group named “Users.” To do this, click Start, click Run, type net localgroup Users /add, and then click OK.
2. Add the non-English language local Users group to the new Users group that you created in step 1. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
b. Expand Local Users and Groups.
c. Click Groups.
d. Right-click the Users group that you created in step 1, and then click Add to Group.
e. Click Add, type the object name of the non-English language local Users group, and then click OK two times.3. Try to install Windows Defender Beta 2 again. Source: Microsoft KB Article 915087

*smirks*. Not the only bug. I get a gdi+ complaint, asking for the “security pack pre-installation kit” or somesuch, mostly complaining of missing gdi+ on win2k. Both can’t find the so called pack on the microsoft site (even via their own internal search), nor does installing gdi+ from the platform development end-user runtimes fix the problem. Well tested microsoft.

The fix for the “user” issue has been posted, so download the new installer and you shouldn’t run into that.

Hehehehe, it’s stupid… guess what. I ran the Windows Defender installation and I knew I was going to have such a problem, OKIE DOKIE… Problem came up and I did half of the steps suggested to fix its issue, and I say half cos’ I added a new local group named “Users” and without typing the object name of the non-English language local Users group the program finished the installation and ran!!!
I’m gonna keep running the Antispyware beta version, I think is secure… As I see it, Microsoft wants to prevent people from using the Antispyware beta due to the high demand for the little useful tool out there… they gift you a candy and then they try to take it away…
