Stash Something in Your PCMCIA Slot with StashCard
By Michael Santo

Most of the laptops I use come fully loaded, so their PCMCIA slots lie unused. Here’s a way to use them: the StashCard. It’s pretty cheap, at $9.95 direct from the site or CompUSA.
I guess the idea is kind of like a money belt. Because of the thinness of a PCMCIA card, obviously you can’t stick anything thick in it. You can put money, spare SD cards, stuff like that in it. But don’t miss the warning that’s shipped inside the StashCard: Warning: The inside of your computer gets hot. Never put granular or liquid items into your StashCard that may melt or otherwise leak. Not that I would put, ahem, sugar or Equal in there or anything.
We Say: I’m not sure how well this really would work for storing money, since I would tend to think if someone wanted to steal something from you, taking the whole laptop would be something they might tend to do … aside from that, I’m not really sure I can think of any really good uses because of the thinness of it.

Storing memory cards does seem like it’d be a useful application for this thing, but I wouldn’t put money or a credit card in there.

Agreed. Memory cards are a great thing to store in this. I hate having to have yet another thing floating around in my laptop backup and this would help store a couple SD cards away until I needed them.

I think the SD card use is a great one. Condom? No way … heat makes them break down really, really fast.
