What can I say? I’m still pining over the Treo 700w that was released last month. I still don’t really like the square screen though, and I knew it would cause some problems for some software.
Well, one of those products has been optimized for the square screen and is now released for the Treo 700w: Calligrapher 8.2, the award-winning (Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine’s Best Software Award for Handwriting Recognition for the past 4 years) handwriting recognition software.
CalliGrapher, one of the most popular Pocket PC handwriting recognition applications on the market, analyzes pen strokes written in any application window or in the designated Write Pad area, then converts those pen strokes into text and sends the recognized text to the target application. Employing advanced fuzzy logic and neural net techniques, CalliGrapher recognizes arbitrary alphanumeric strings as well as words contained in its integrated dictionary.
Additional improvements to the software include an improved algorithm for CalliGrapher Statistical Analyzer, which allows CalliGrapher to learn the user’s writing habits and automatically fix common recognition errors based on the user’s writing patterns. Version 8.2 also has internal improvements to provide users with the best performing handwriting recognition program. Source: PhatWare Press Release
We Say: I’ve grown to like thumbboards, but as one of the early Palm adopters, I remember when all we had was Graffiti, and I got pretty good at it. I still drop down into writing things every once in a while. If you’re like me, this might be something you want to try.
