Sony Puts AIBO Down

It looks like Sony’s robot dog Aibo has been put to sleep. I haven’t seen a separate press release, but buried in a presentation (PDF here) today for Q3 Fiscal Year 2005 results, is the following text (p. 6):
New Product Development for AIBO has already ceased, and production is targeted to stop by the end of fiscal year 2005. However, after-sales support will continue. There will also be no new development for QRIO. Source: Sony Earnings Presentation Slideshow linked above
We Say: I’ve always preferred my real dogs to the AIBO
, but I’m still sorry to see him go. Let’s hope the end is quick and painless for man’s best robotic friend.
