We were disappointed when US-based DVD rental service Netflix nixed video downloads, but it’s nice to see the company making some moves toward advanced technology - in this case a plan to offer high definition (HD) DVDs as soon as March, with Blu-ray to follow.
We Say: Blockbuster who?
Looks like the DVD rental club is going to be supporting HD DVD at its launch in March, carrying the first, next generation DVD movies—and promises to do the same with Blu-ray when it finally comes together. The company is relying on Toshiba’s new HD DVD player to also be available in March, so lets all collectively cross our fingers that we something in the next few months. Source: Gizmodo

Walt D in LV says:
This is why Netflix is and will continue to be the leader in Online DVD Rentals. If local video stores do not carry the HD DVD, and later Blu Ray discs, Netflix will surely capture, perhaps dominate, the HD DVD market.
By the way, Netflix has always put advertisements inside new DVD player boxes, so one can only assume that they will have their flyers/advertisements inside the Toshiba HD DVD player, helping to exaggerate their domination.
