ThermalTake XRay, Cigarette Lighter and Beverage Holder For Your PC

By Alice Hill
RealTechNews

In these politically correct times, I just can’t help but thumb my nose at all that now and then– especially when there is an intriguing tech angle to be had. Here’s a kit that will turn an unused drive bay in any desktop PC into a pop out beverage holder and cigrarette lighter. Of course, the old tech support joke centered around nimrods who tried to use their CD drives as cup holders, but here’s the way to seal the deal and make the PC-based cup holder a reality. There’s something fitting about that even if you only hold fresh spring water and never light more than an incense stick.

If you have an empty bay on your PC and you want to make good use of that valuable real-estate, ThermalTake has the thing for you. The ThermalTake XRay is a cigarette light power adapter and cup tray for the PC. You can recharge your cell phone or smoke a Cohiba and have a place to put down your favorite brown pop all at the same time. Price:19.99 Source: ThinkGeek via The Uberreview

We say: Great price but what’s with the beyond-awful name? ThernalTake Xray? Huh? Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em marketing department. It shows.

Please don’t go after the name. The desigers of ThermalTake XRay can’t resist any empty spaces popping out of your desktops. The kit fits into an unused drive bay of your desktop PC and can be used as a cigarette lighter, power adapter and a pop out…

    PC tower with tailfins

PC tower with tailfins: Got a desktop tower with an empty drive bay, and a $20 bill you can spare? Then trick out your computer with a sturdy cup-holder and lighter. Classic outfit, particularly when paired with the USB ashtray….

I agree with shadow, it’s a cool idea, (no more digging through the papers for a lighter! :) But… I am a klutz too. I tripped over the door jam on the way out of the house this morning…

I think that there are a few other things that I could spend 20 bucks on. Where could you possibly have your desktop somewhere where you couldn’t put down a coke, your lap. The cig lighter part of this addition could be useful for someone who smokes or if all you can find is your car charger.

I have an idea, why not make an empty drive bay into a beer tap.
