Google Takes First Place in 2005 Brand Poll

brandchannel.com asked the question “Which brand had the most impact on our lives in 2005?” and 2,528 branding professionals and students voted and came up with the answer Google. Google last topped this poll in 2003, losing it to Apple last year, which came in second this year. Skype finished third. The poll doesn’t take into account positive or negative feelings about the brand

We Say: These were the global results; interestingly, in North America, Apple bested Google. I was pretty surprised last year when Google lost, as the term “googling” someone seems ubiquitous (and I seem to see the term used on TV shows all the time … as in last week’s “Without a Trace”) … and I’m actually surprised at the reversal between the global and North American polls, though perhaps that shows the power of the iPod in the U.S. and Canada.
