Walletex Wallet Flash is the World’s Slimmest Flash Drive

This one I have to personally take a pass on. My wallet is bulging with cards, and I don’t mean fancy cards like the black American Express, but all the nuts and bolts cards of normal life: movie rental card, ATM, Costco membership, calling card, credit card, health insurance card, building security ID card, frequent flier card, and on and on. I can honestly say that the LAST thing I need is another card bulging up my poor wallet. But to those who don’t care, or want to carry their data in a flatter and more innovative format - here’s a credit-card shaped flash drive from Walletex - the Wallet Flash.
Wallet Flash is currently available with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 compatible connectivity and in storage capacities ranging from 128MB to 1GB. The suggested retail price ranges from US$29 to US$156. Walletex is actively expanding its sales channels both online and in traditional retail outlets in the United States later in 2006. Currently, consumers can purchase the Wallet Flash product by going to the company web site. Businesses interested in purchasing the Wallet Flash product for promotional gift purposes can contact (U.S.) 212-461-4861. Source: Gizmag
We Say: Sounds like a dream product for marketers, but that means the cheapest, slowest low-capacity version with a hugo logo. Plus, now when your wallet gets stolen you can lose all your data too.

Hmmm… Put a modified virus/trojan on this wallet flash drive. The criminal tries to read data off of it, his/her computer gets infected with something that tries to call the police…

I’ve also wondered about ideas like RFID instead of credit cards. The same thing could happen. Remember those people who are embedding RFID under their skin (our story at http://www.realtechnews.com/posts/2452)? I can see it now … a Law and Order or CSI story where perps are going around taking RFID tags from people … the hard way.

I dunno why wallet makers just don’t start putting pockets in for memory cards. And I will point to this thread if you try and patent it! Besides the plethora of non-USB sticks that are easily smaller than this, there’s a USB one as well:

the manner in which flas drives are ever increasing in storage could lead to users walking around with all of their data and info on one device. Why can’t a flash drive be setup with installed programs, email settings, etc. and all we would have to do is plug into a device such as a thin-client and be functioning like we were sitting in front of our PC or latop no matter where we travel or work from?
